LUCCHESE 1883 MAD DOG GOAT BOOTS

My new(ish) Lucchese boots were featured on the blog in an outfit post (29.4.14) and also on Instagram. Still, I thought it was time to show them up close and personal. If you've followed my blog for a while, it's clear that I'm a big fan of boots, and that I wear them year-round. My first instance of boot love was at age three or four. I "wore" my father's western boots, clomping around the house, loud and proud. There's a photo somewhere...

Now that I live in Texas, how could I not add a pair of western boots to my collection - as long as they're relatively plain, black, and go with my Rick Owens based wardrobe. Lucchese Mad Dog boots fit my aesthetic and my feet like a dream. And yes, I even wear them in 100F heat.

Do you wear boots year-round? Do you ever wear western boots?

After much consideration, I could not resist purchasing these Cobra Rock desert boots. When they first appeared on my radar, I thought I'd like to have a pair if only they were black. No luck. Cobra Rock doesn't do black (yet). Upon further thought, I remembered there is something quite raw and utterly beautiful about oiled brown leather as it ages - not to mention how modern it looks with monochrome black clothing.

Since I came to live in Texas, I've been slowly accumulating handmade goods created by local craftspeople, artists and artisans. Cobra Rock boots are designed and made in Marfa, a strange little art town in the Chihuahuan Desert of Far West Texas. And since today is #ThrowbackThursday, here are a few posts from my 2012 Marfa pilgrimage: 1.5.12, 8.5.12, and 15.5.12.

Do you wear brown boots with all black clothing? Have you been to Marfa?

COMPLEXGEOMETRIES JUNCTION DRESS, THEORY BODYSUIT, ACNE PISTOL BOOTS, MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA RINGS.

My version of a perfect summer dress has endless versatility with cotton layers built in, to wrap and wear as you please. Complexgeometries' junction dress is The One. Just when I think I've exhausted all of its wearing options, I find a new one - here, worn backwards (I think?)

What's your perfect summer dress?

COMPLEXGEOMETRIES JUNCTION DRESS IN SHALE, THEORY TUBULAR TANK, RICK OWENS LILIES SHORTS IN LEAD, ACNE PISTOL BOOTS, MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA SILVER RINGS. FRAGRANCE IS CHANEL COCO MADEMOISELLE.

Shale (Complexgeometries) and lead (Rick Owens Lilies) don't exactly appear the same grey colour but that's how I like it. Subtle differences add interest and casual flair to an ensemble, don't you think?

By the way, have you shopped any good sales lately? Tell me.

ODYSSEY'S GARDEN - SOMEWHERE IN AUSTIN, TEXAS

Earthly delights: my backyard garden in early summer, thanks to the previous residents and recent rains. Don't ask me what the flowers are in the first two images but feel free to tell me. I know the third is echinacea, or coneflower.

How does your garden grow?
